🐾 Port Ellen Marina

Port Ellen Marina provides 34 berths equipped with inclusive water and power, catering to visiting yachts and boats. You cannot book a berth, so fingers crossed as it is first come, first served. Pete ended up rafting and then waiting for other sailors to leave in order to be close enough to the jetty for Svea to disembark.

The marina is situated near the village center, allowing easy access to local amenities and walking routes. The marina staff and their children fell in love with Svea, so she was spoiled rotten on arrival.

1. Three Distilleries Pathway

• Distance: Approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) round trip

• Details: This paved coastal path connects the Laphroaig, Lagavulin, and Ardbeg distilleries. It's an easy, flat route suitable for leashed dogs, offering stunning sea views and opportunities to explore Islay's whisky heritage. Pete enjoyed his visit; however, he much preferred the information given by the locals to the distillery tour information. Svea kept an eye on him!

2. Port Ellen Standing Stones Loop

• Distance: Approximately 3 miles (4.8 km)

• Details: A circular walk that starts in Port Ellen, passing by historic standing stones and offering panoramic views of the village and coastline. It's a moderate walk suitable for most fitness levels. 

3. Carraig Fhada Lighthouse and Kilnaughton Bay

• Distance: Approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) round trip

• Details: A short walk from Port Ellen to the picturesque Carraig Fhada Lighthouse, passing by Kilnaughton Bay. The beach areas are ideal for dogs to explore, but be mindful of local wildlife and keep dogs under control.
