Peterhead

After the Orca excitement (see previous post), we arrived at Peterhead just after midday. A harbour master navigated Rimau in, asking us to arrive just before a large tanker docked. The marina staff then sorted out a berth and Calor gas with efficiency and a smile. Fuel unfortunately was unavailable. This small break allowed for the autopilot to be fixed, washing completed, and plenty of time to conduct research in the local taverns.
đž Dog-Friendliness of Peterhead Bay Marina
Marina Policy: Dogs allowed if kept on a lead. In reality, many dogs were visiting this marina and staff were happy with Svea roaming off lead - as she was so well behaved.
Facilities: The marina is centrally located, offering immediate access to beaches, promenades, and scenic walks. Showers / toilets have just been refurbished, and at a cost of ÂŁ23 per night is worthy of the title - best marina on the East coast of Scotland.
Local Attitude: Peterhead is known for being dog-friendly, with many locals and sailors enjoying walks with their dogs along the coast and in town.
đż Top Dog Walks in and Around Peterhead
1. Peterhead Lido Beach
Distance: Adjacent to the marina
Details: A thin strip of sandy beach located within Peterhead Bay Marina, sectioned off from the rest of the bay by two breakwaters. Local schools and accessibility sailing was taking place over the weekend, so we avoided the busy jetty area.
Dog Notes:
No dog restrictionsâdogs are welcome all year round.
Ideal for off-lead play and paddling.
Plenty of dog bins.
2. Boddam Castle-Stirling Hill Quarries Walk
Distance: Approximately 3 miles south of Peterhead
Details: An exhilarating coastal walk along visually stunning cliff-tops, passing the ruins of Boddam Castle.
Dog Notes:
Dogs are welcome but should be kept on a lead near livestock and the main A90
Limited facilitiesâcarry water and waste bags.
đâ𦺠Dog-Friendly Pubs in Peterhead
The Harbour Lights: A welcoming pub where dogs are allowed in the bar area. Lots of doggy treats and attention given to Svea.
The Cross Keys: This Wetherspoons is very dog-friendly and has plenty of space to relax and warm up - we arrived here after a downpour. The prices are ridiculously low, so we had to try a few drams!
The Caley Bar: If you like loud rock music at 2pm on a Saturday then this is for you. Pete and I had a quick beer, gave our excuses and then proceeded with our research aka pub crawl around town.
